It is my pleasure to introduce to practicing flutists of all ages this Flute Workout Vol. 2. The intention of this method is to make practice more rewarding and to produce a greater awareness of musicality, intonation, accuracy, and, in some ways, stage presence, since the beat invites movement. Frequently, I have asked students why they were not practicing their daily exercises, and almost always the response was that they were “boring.” This method was developed to help students enjoy their daily practice. It is not intended to promote one type of music over another, but simply, by using the most common vocabulary of musical sounds, to transform the daily routine of exercises into a fun activity. As they learn to enjoy their daily practice, flutists will acquire a stronger technique and grow as musicians.
